Gingival Contouring Wilmington, DE
Gingival Contouring or gum contouring is something that people can do to cosmetically improve their mouths’ looks for a more even gum to teeth ratio when they smile. While everyone’s gumline is different and can be high, low, or even uneven, you can change it with this procedure.
Gum Contouring can also be used to fix any issues with your gums that might be causing problems with your health such as gum disease issues. Delaware Periodontics can help with gum contouring, no matter what you need it for.
Do You Need It?
Unlike the other procedures a dentist can do, this one is an elective procedure. This is one that you can pick for yourself if you need any help for cosmetic reasons. If you want your gums, teeth, or mouth to look more pleasing, then this is the procedure that will improve your smile.
If you feel like your gums are uneven or showing too little or too much of your teeth, then you can call on us for a procedure. We can look at your teeth and mouth and determine exactly what will work for you based on your needs.
How Does It Work?
Gum contouring reshapes your gumline, either by restoring gum tissue or by cutting away the excess. Much like other procedures, gum contouring is done with local anesthesia. Once the area is numb, then a scalpel or soft laser can remove or resculpt the gums.
If we need to add more tissue to your gums, we will remove some tissue from another part of your mouth to restructure the gumline. This procedure takes around one to two hours to complete, and then you will have a new mouth look.
After the Procedure
While you will not have to deal with a lot of downtime, the healing can take a while. Your mouth could be tender for a few days or a few weeks, depending on how extensive the changes were. For the first few days, you should eat softer foods that are easy to swallow and avoid any hard or cold foods.
You will also have to come by to get a checkup, where we will look at you and make sure that everything is healing correctly. We will also monitor your gums for the risk of infection.
If you want to do gum contouring for a medical or a cosmetic reason, then call Delaware Periodontics at 302-551-3553 to set up an appointment. We will be sure to listen to your needs and inspect your mouth and make sure that you can get the best smile you can have. |
